About Derham


Derham Cole earned his degree in business economics, cum laude, with honors from the University of South Carolina Honors College. He continued his education at USC by earning his Master of International Business Studies from the Moore School of Business and his law degree from the School of Law. Derham practices law with the Wilkes Law Firm, P.A. in downtown Spartanburg. His practice emphasizes business litigation and business transactions.  He has an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Derham represents District 32 (Spartanburg) in the South Carolina House of Representatives. First elected in 2008, he has served as Chairman of the Special Laws and General Laws Subcommittees of the Judiciary Committee and currently sits on the budget-writing Ways & Means Committee. In 2014, Speaker Jay Lucas appointed Derham as Chairman of the House Ethics and Freedom of Information Act Study Committee. He is currently the Chairman of the Spartanburg County Legislative Delegation.

Derham was recognized in 2016 as the Legislator of the Year for the S.C. Human Service Providers Association for his advocacy on behalf of South Carolinians living with disabilities and special needs. He has earned the Business Advocate Award from the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce four times. He has also earned the Sword and Mace Award from the Business & Industry Political Education Committee. In 2010, Derham was selected by the Speaker of the House to participate in the Program for Emerging Political Leaders at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.

Derham is married to the former Suzy Boulware and they have a son, Derham, III.  Derham is a member of the Rotary Club of Spartanburg and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association since 2012.  He is also an usher at First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.
